COVID-19 airport updates

New Zealand is at Alert Level 2. Domestic travel is underway, with flight schedules changing daily, so we recommend you contact your airline for the latest information. For general travel advice visit the government website.

At the airport

We work with the Ministry of Health and other agencies to ensure you feel comfortable as you come through the terminal.

We ask every person who comes to the terminal to demonstrate physical distancing - especially in areas where queues naturally form, such as check-in and boarding.

The Alert Level 2 guideline is for 2 metre separation in uncontrolled areas where there is no contact tracing available and where you are among people you don't know, and 1 metre separation in controlled areas where contact tracing is available or where you know the person. At Christchurch Airport, controlled areas are the passenger facilitation areas in the terminal (check-in, security screening, departure areas) and can only be accessed by ticketed passengers, guardians of unaccompanied minors and airport staff. Uncontrolled areas are public spaces in the terminal which can be accessed by any visitor to the airport, including family and friends who aren't travelling.

We hope the digital signage and floor markers, along with public announcements, will help you avoid close physical contact.

The cleaning regime for the airport terminal has been increased in recent months, so there is more cleaning and disinfecting more often, and you may see cleaners working too.

Please remember to wash your hands often, and feel free to use the hand sanitiser units near the toilet blocks.

Retailers and eateries

In the terminal 

Some eateries in the terminal are open, with tenants aware of and demonstrating health and safety requirements.

Trading hours may change from time to time, depending on flight schedules, but vending machines and water stations are always available. Please note the water stations are regularly cleaned in line with Ministry of Health guidelines.

You will notice we have reduced seating in the food court to help you maintain 2 metre separation.

Some retailers are also open, but operating hours may vary from day to day.

Retailers, eateries and other tenants at Spitfire Square are open with safety measures in place to assist with physical distancing. 

On the airport campus

McDonalds and KFC are open. 

 

Transport

Pick-up and drop-off

The Loop remains open for free pick-ups and drop-offs in private vehicles (no parking). 

Parking

Express Park, Short Stay and Long Stay are open.

The Orchard Road car park is also open and you can wait here for up to 30 minutes free before picking someone up from The Loop.
